From the CPGjobs Newsletter: March, 2011
Whether you’ve been dragged kicking and screaming into engaging with the social media recruiting monster or have happily jumped right in, there can be no doubt that there are an overwhelming number of resources in Twitter, Facebook and blogs out there for recruiters.
With all our recent activity on Twitter, Facebook and the blogosphere, we’ve found several quite exceptional (and some interesting “upstart”) social media resources specifically helpful to recruiters – and we’d like to share some of them with you. We hope you find at least a few “bookmark worthy”:
Here’s Our List:
Blogs
Fistful of Talent – A featured blog of Workforce Management, Fistful of Talent (FOT) features an exceptional lineup of contributors including the ever irreverent Kathy Rapp, Kris Dunn and Kelly Dingee to name a few. The thing we love about this site is that in addition to the exceptional quality of the posts, you can find some truly helpful material here.
The Red Recruiter – Michael Long’s endlessly fascinating recruitment blog deals with technology and the recruiting industry. Here he reviews a variety of topics, but we find his posts about the experience of (reframing) recruiting in the age of social media particularly engaging.
The Recruiters Lounge – The Recruiter’s Lounge is a blog that explores the “wacky world of employment with news, articles, videos, podcasts” and yes, even some comics. Like FOT, this site contains extremely helpful content appropriate for all talent management professionals, from Sourcers to Corporate Recruiters. Especially rich is the information on social media recruiting and sourcing tools and tutorials.
Recruiting Blogs – This site is one of the Human Capital Institutes “Top 100 Blogs.” Recruiting Blogs is a kind of social mash-up for the industry in which members post their own content into the community, interact, react and engage on all subjects recruiting related. Not only is this a great site at which to read some interesting content, but it’s quick and easy to join the conversation yourself. Invite your colleagues to join the conversation, create a custom profile…or just read.
#HFChat – Numerous groups have emerged recently on Twitter that specifically focus on human resource management and recruiting. One of our faves is #HFChat, a particularly active Twitter community that hosts (weekly) Twitter chats. But you don’t have to meet with this group “live” to find this stream filled with incredibly interesting resources. Here both recruitment professionals and talent meet to discuss job search and related topics. Definitely a stream to follow. Can a tweet up be far behind?
#HireFriday – The jury still seems to be out on whether or not Twitter is a viable sourcing tool. Nonetheless #HireFriday is an interesting Twitter feed to check out between your candidate searches on CPGjobs’ People Search or in LinkedIn. At this feed, candidates post links to their resumes, candidate resumes are posted by services and yes, recruiters post links to live job searches However, as the name implies, the most interesting content occurs on Fridays when activity reaches its peak. You can read more about the Hire Friday concept here.
Recruiters-and-Recruiting – Connect with excellent content on recruitment at this Twitter list curated by Susan Joyce. Susan is an “influential” on Twitter with a Klout score in the mid 60s and definitely someone you want to follow. She has curated numerous and very interesting lists around the topics of recruiting and employers using Twitter for recruitment. Not only a great resource in and of herself, Susan’s feed is a good resource for expanding your own Twitter connections.
Twtr4Recruiting – Twtr4Recruiting is an exceptional resource for great links to content on the web for recruiters. All topics are covered by this feed including tools for the major social media sites liked LinkedIn and Twitter, as well as tips for search effectiveness, great webinar announcements, social sourcing resources and more. Twtr4Recruiting also has some good #FFs so tune in on Fridays! Warning: VERY addictive!
Work For Us – Work for Us is a Facebook Application that can be installed via a tab on your Facebook Fan Page. This is a particularly useful app for consultants, independent recruiters, smaller organizations and in some cases, even larger organizations looking to augment or “socialize” their existing career site. This application allows candidates to apply to your positions without leaving Facebook and to share your positions across their personal networks. If you want to dip your toe in the water, you can install this app for free and post 1 job to see how it works.
Hireplug – We think Hireplug is a very interesting social recruitment application for Facebook. This app allows you to invite key employees to install the HirePlug “We Are Hiring” tab on their Facebook profile pages as well as on your own Facebook Fan Page. The application also includes common social sharing links – allowing for organic social sharing. The “command center” for job entry can be embedded on your own website, which allows you to broadcast new positions everywhere the application tab is installed automatically. Hireplug also allows users to share open positions in more than 40 networks (Think “Share This”) and allows emailing of jobs directly from the application. Sound interesting? Take 2 minutes to watch the company’s video.
Even if these Facebook career applications are not right for your company, we think they are worth watching- and will definitely give you a sense of the future possibilities for recruiting on Facebook.
Feeling a little overwhelmed? Don’t fret! The social media landscape for recruiting is constantly evolving. And if you think you’d like some help, take a look at our Featured Affiliate for this month, Neal Schaffer of Windmills Networking. Neal is a terrific resource for helping you and your organization ferret through the emerging social media landscape. We highly recommend him!
