Giving Back – The Business Strategy That Keeps on Giving
Like a lot of people, my career has taken a few interesting twists and turns over the years, and looking back, I have to say that I’ve enjoyed the ride. It seems now as though each new step opened up for me a different view of the world, and a different way of approaching business and business relationships.
Yet, I must say that my definitive moment came 11 years ago when I entered the world of recruiting and joined CPGjobs. Here, I found my true calling; helping people when they needed help the most. It’s become, what you might call my “life purpose and essential task.”
Being laid off is one of the most stressful things that can happen to anyone, and it’s at this most stressful time that I often talk to candidates. I hear the fear, and yes, the anger in their voices. They’re shocked and confused and uncertain about what to do next. It’s my job to help them get them through it.
As Senior Vice-President here at CPGjobs, the mission I try to instill here is that our first order of priority is to take care of candidates, NOT simply help them find a new job. I want to ensure that when you contact us during what might very well be one of the most difficult times in your life, that everyone here on staff is ready and willing to listen. I want you to know that you can express your anger, frustrations, and anxieties, and that we are here to help you with your next steps.
I see the value of CPGjobs entirely in terms of the long-term relationships we build with our candidates. When you decide to share your career with us and use our services, I want you to stay with us throughout your career progression (and twists and turns); and I’m pleased to say that this has been the case with many of our candidates. I want you to stay with us not simply because you found a job through us – but because you have a sense that we truly care about you, that we’re here to help – through both the good times as well as the not so good. In fact, Even if you find your new job through a different channel, I want to be able to say that we helped you with your preparation.
This is a value that we hold very close here at CPGjobs. And when you think about it, it makes good business sense as well.
When people know that you care, that you are here to help, and when you truly serve them they will gladly pass you and your company’s name on to others. This mission of service was a priority for me when I first started in my job and we had fewer than 2,000 registered candidates, and we are all still doing it now that we have over 73,000! It’s a value that will continue here at CPGjobs ‘ and will continue as long as we are here.
Now, it is true that we “own the space” for jobs in the Consumer Packaged Goods industry. By this I mean that if you Google the vast majority of search terms necessary to find a job in our industry, CPGjobs’ websites and job listings will be the first you see – usually in the top 1-10 positions. This is quite an accomplishment considering the millions of (much larger) job sites out there. And yes, I want every single professional in our industry to get to know CPGjobs, to register their profiles with us, to use us when the need presents itself , and importantly, to tell their hiring company that they came to them through us.
However, all the wonderful technology aside, the fact is that it’s not enough that you find the best jobs listed by the most desired CPG employers at CPGjobs. I do want you to know that we are the biggest and best in CPG – but I also want you to know that we really do care about our relationship with you and that there is a real, live person here waiting (and wanting) to talk with you about your job search. This defines the difference between our company and the hundreds of other companies out there operating online job boards. We give you a phone number to a real live person.
Our Mission Statement at CPGjobs is “Giving back, one person at a time.” Simply and directly, that’s why we’re here. It’s a philosophy of doing business that has served us well and helped grow our relationships with candidates thousands-fold, strictly through word of mouth, organically over time.
